Newmilns has been awarded a £20,000 grant for a capital project, through the Scottish Government's Place Based Investment Program. We conducted a survey on our Love Newmilns Facebook page.
The grant must be spent on capital projects and we have identified 4 potential projects, but would like the community to decide on how it should be spent. Contracts for the works must be in place for 31st March 2022, so time is limited:
1. Garden area at Nelson Street (next to the river) - 84 VOTES
Incorporating new planting including shrubs and wild flowers, seating area, new railings next to the river with repointing of the wall. This would be for community use, as well as being visible to all traffic passing through Newmilns.
2. Display Boards & Signage - 11 VOTES
A package of display boards and signage to be positioned around the town highlighting the history of the town (historical plaques for the old lanes), wildlife and flora of the river, as well as prominent listed buildings in the town. The display boards could have scannable QR codes leading to further information and audio clips about the landmark on the Love Newmilns website
3. Artwork for Bedlam Car Park - 2 VOTES
An art project based on the history of Newmilns to go at the new car park at Bedlam, depicting the history of the site or the history of Newmilns (weaving etc).
4. Viaduct Lighting - 41 VOTES
Lighting of the railway viaduct at Greenside park, similar to that installed at the viaduct in Kilmarnock.
