Surprise Announcement
The big surprise announcement at the Public Meeting was that Loudoun Valley Trust have purchased the Post Office in Brown Street for Newmilns Regeneration Association to use as a Heritage Centre. It needs a bit of work and volunteers would be most welcome to help turn this building into a Heritage Museum that Newmilns can be proud of. If you want to volunteer your time, equipment or materials to help restore the building, please get in touch with us.
Historical Society
In light of the Heritage Centre becoming a reality, a Historical Society is being formed and we are looking for volunteers! Many residents and ex-residents are interested in tracing their roots and the NRA has received several enquiries on this subject, but unfortunately, we do not have the time to commit to this. Therefore it has been decided to create a new sub-group to deal with this side of things. Another matter we would like to address is cataloguing all the headstones in Newmilns Cemetary. Interested?
Townscape
Details of the Townscape Improvements were displayed with suggestions for new signage for the village, building improvements planned and suggested additional car parking locations to relieve the issue of parking.
Planters, Bins and Benches
Full approval has now been received from East Ayrshire Council to site the 3 Tier Pot Planters, Litter Bins and Benches at various locations throughout Newmilns. A map of the locations was on display for visitors to the meeting. Work is due to begin imminently and these should be in location for the summer.
Food Festival
Updates on the Food Festival planned for Saturday 17th September were posted on a slideshow - the Food Festival sub-committee are still looking for local Producers, Sponsors and volunteers for the day, which should prove to be one of the biggest events of the century for Newmilns!
Clean Up
Newmilns Clean Up is planned for Saturday 28th May 10am-12 noon, meeting at the Church Hall at Greenside. Tabards, gloves and bags will be provided on the day, but please wear appropriate clothing. Specific areas have been earmarked again. Volunteers are also required, so if you want to help, please get in touch.
Entertainment
Entertainment was provided by Calum Kerr, S3, Loudoun Academy who played a few solos for us and showed us his musical talents prior to the public address from Marie Johnson, Chairperson.
East Ayrshire Housing Service, Vibrant Communities and East Ayrshire Tenants & Residents Federation were also on hand to provide assistance to the community. Ronalds the Bakers provided delicious cakes to go with the tea and coffee and and enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
